A few players have responded to Stevenage's victory in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy over MK Dons in midweek.
Stevenage came from behind in the game thanks to goals from Francois Zoko and Filipe Morais, and Graham Westley has already said it was nice to see his old Stevenage side back in terms of our performance, fight and battle on the night.
Speaking to the Official Site goalscorer Morais said firstly that he felt that the win and the performance was long overdue from the players, as they clearly hadn't been at their best, hadn't done their best for the manager, the fans or themselves in recent weeks in our league campaign and having taken the victory in the cup competition given our earlier league defeat to Dons, was something sweet for them to build on.
'There was definitely a different feel about the game. We've had some players come back and it is vital experience, it's given us a lift. Hopefully it's onwards and upwards for us now and we kick on.'
Morais says that players who were replaced, he had full confidence that they would redouble their efforts on the training pitch and ultimately competition would prove to be one of our most motivating factors in the remainder of the campaign.
On loan Michael Doughty's main topic of concern was his goal that never was, but even he didn't shy away from talking about how difficult a period it had been for the club in recent weeks with our 'string of results' but he says confidence in the camp has always been high, the players have always worked hard and it was only a matter of time before things went for us, as opposed to against us.
'We were relieved more than anything to get a win under our belts.'
As for his non goal, he's still a little perplexed by the referee's decision to not play on but maybe he faked out the referee as he was setting up for the shot, but instead the penalty was awarded, which Morais obviously put away.
'I faked to shoot and had an open goal, but the ref blew the whistle!'
He admits he's still waiting for his first goal, but he trusts in his own ability that it will come, but what is important for the club moving forward is that we get the results we want and deserve and when/if his goal comes that will be a bonus if we are already winning.
