'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Scoreline Was Unfair - Westley

Manager Graham Westley has said the scoreline was very flattering to Bristol City today, and despite the loss he was bouyed by our performance and the reaction the players showed following our recent results.

Westley hasn't mixed his words in our recent matches that have left us on a winless streak for quite a few games, but instead of focusing on the negatives, he actually saw plenty of positives from the showing.

'I saw a game today where the team showed a lot of fight, a lot of care, we had a lot of good possession, we took our game forward and created a lot of good moments. The scoreline could have been different on a different day.'

Westley goes on to talk statistics pointing out that they scored four goals from their ten attempts whereas we only managed to score once from our 19 chances on goal and he feels that the number of attempts on goal is a far better reflection on the game overall than the final scoreline.

'Football is about scoring goals, but I was comfortable with the work ethic, the care and desire of the team today.'

The biggest positive for Westley though remained the contrasting performance to our last game which he's already described as being very poor, but I guess his frustration is had we played like that in previous matches we've had far more to show from it.

But that has to be the marker now for the gaffer after calling for zero tolerance previously, explaining that if we continue to perform to those standards and we can maintain it, whilst showing the improvement where we need to in terms of being more clinical and tighter at the back, he feels we will be okay this season and can look to build from there, but for the first time in a while he took a lot of encouragement from the way the lads performed and that's what he wants to take from the match.
