Encouraging Signs For Westley

Encouraging Signs For Westley

Speaking after our two all draw with West Ham, a much happier Graham Westley said that he saw some very encouraging signs from our overall performance on the day.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, the gaffer explained.

'I thought both clubs played the game in a different way. They played two elevens and we tried to push a lot of lads through the best part of 90 minutes. There was inevitably going to be a physical factor coming into it late on. We probably saw a side that looked in command for most of the game when we made the changes and they got a couple of moments they weren't likely to get but for the changes. We were strong and organised in defence, we were positive going forward, there was sensible organisation about our attacking and we looked dangerous and could have had more than the two that we got. There was plenty to be encouraged about.'

With Westley not one to really praise individuals following games, preferring to go often with the theory you win, draw and lose as a group, but he couldn't pass up the opportunity to credit the performance of midfielder Simon Walton.

'I've said to the boys just now that I don't like to blow smoke at anybody but I certainly had to acknowledge Simon Walton's performance. He was outstanding.'

Westley goes on to credit his energy, the fact he kept going for all 90 minutes, 'his voice, his leadership, his command of the game, his decision making - he's a class act.'

Certainly nice to hear the gaffer talk positively given some of his after match interviews last season that were probably just as painful for him to give, as they were to listen to or read.
